Henry 'Chips' Channon: The Diaries 1938 - 1943 (Volume Two)

Talk:
3.00PM Thursday, 30th September 2021
Genre:

Following the rapturous reception of Volume One, historian and Daily Telegraph columnist Simon Heffer brings us Volume Two of Henry ‘Chips’ Channon: The Diaries this September.

A native of Chicago, Chips Channon settled in England after the Great War marrying into the wealthy Guinness family and serving as a Conservative MP from 1935 until his death in 1958. His political career was unremarkable. His diaries quite the opposite – elegant, gossipy and bitchy by turns, the unfettered observations of a man who went everywhere and knew everybody from Neville Chamberlain and Winston Churchill to Noël Coward and Lord Alfred Douglas.

Covering the period between 1938 and 1943, these richly entertaining diaries bring a pivotal epoch vividly to life.

Simon Heffer will be in conversation with Edmund Newell.
