The King's Witch: James I and the Gunpowder Plot

Talk
7.00PM Wednesday, 19th September 2018
Genre:

Frances Gorges, daughter of Elizabeth I’s favourite lady-in-waiting, finds herself accused of witchcraft and becomes embroiled in the plot to oust James I from the throne.

In this talk, inspired by her debut novel, Tracy Borman takes us into the turbulent world of the early Stuart court, where King James I waged a war on witches and Catholics alike, not long before a dark campaign to destroy both King and Parliament gathered pace, culminating in the Gunpowder Plot.

Interweaving fact and fiction, Tracy will tell Frances’s story and bring one of the most dramatic events in British history vividly to life.

Duration: 1 hour

Speaker: Tracy Borman
