Take Nothing With You

Talk
7.00PM Tuesday, 25th September 2018
Genre:

One of the country’s best-loved novelists, Patrick Gale came to the attention of many in 2017 with his original BBC television drama Man In An Orange Shirt.

Set in the 1970s, Take Nothing With You is his latest novel about only child and oddball Eustace whose life is transformed when he takes up cello lessons. Enrolled in holiday courses in the Scottish borders, Eustace adds lessons in love, rejection and humility to his daily practice.

In this talk, discover how the narrative draws in part on Patrick’s own youth as boyhood, coming of age, and the confusions of desire and reality are explored.

Speaker: Patrick Gale

Duration: 1 hour

Quote: ‘A compelling story of how a passion for music can be the gateway to self-discovery, and lead a young teenager to find his tribe.’  Jonathan Dove
