Part of the great appeal of Hackney Colliery Band lies in their diverse set list. Taking their cues from the worlds of contemporary rock and electronica, jazz and global brass, they switch between high energy and moody introspection, from cutting edge jazz to dancefloor rave.
Formed in 2008, their third album, Sharpener, went into the jazz charts at number three. Their New Orleans-style line up of trumpets, trombones, saxes, sousaphone and two drummers, coupled with a name that pays homage to the British brass heritage, demonstrates a band rooted in tradition, with a thoroughly modern sound.
