Returning to the Festival with his new book, Adrian Tinniswood will explore the domestic history of the royal household, revealing Britain’s monarchs as seen through the eyes of those who keep their secrets.

Charles I maintained a household of 2,000 people, Victoria had a medical establishment of 30 doctors, three dentists and a chiropodist, whilst Elizabeth II keeps a full-time staff of 1,200. Everyone is there to smooth the sovereign’s path through life, while simultaneously confirming his or her status.
