Portraits of Old Etonians: The Leaving Portrait Collection

Eton Portrait Image

This is an opportunity to discover the unique circumstances which led to the formation of the Eton College ‘Leaving Portrait’ collection, while also exploring some of the less familiar portraits of staff and Old Etonians.

Philippa Martin, Keeper of Fine & Decorative Art, will shed light on Eton’s tradition of commissioning ‘Leaving Portraits’: portraits of boys just after they have left the college. The talk will conclude with a brief introduction to the current portrait exhibition followed by an opportunity to access a permanent display of portraits at the college and to view the exhibition New Faces: Unexhibited Portraits from Eton’s Boarding Houses.
