2016 marks the Tercentenary of the birth of Thomas Gray. This walk will celebrate his life and explore his work Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard, one of the most famous poems in the English language and written in Stoke Poges.
Accompanied by musical items from vocal ensemble Quintessential Voices and readings from his poetry, you will visit St Giles’ Church and the Churchyard where Thomas Gray is buried, as well as his Monument in Gray’s Field and the beautiful Memorial Gardens designed to preserve the tranquil and rural setting so eloquently described by the 18th century poet.
