The Quest for Queen Mary

Talk
3.00PM Sunday, 30th September 2018
Genre:

Commissioned to write an official biography of Queen Mary, the Queen’s grandmother, James Pope-Hennessy was reluctant to take on the task. But encouraged by his brother, who thought the endangered species of royalty would make for fascinating observation, his book was published to great critical acclaim in 1959.

However, many of his interviews were strictly embargoed for 50 years. Now published in full, with additional introductions and context provided by Hugo Vickers, hear the story of how Pope-Hennessy wrote Queen Mary, and learn much that he did not dare publish at the time, from this well-known writer, broadcaster and lecturer.

Speaker: Hugo Vickers

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Includes full afternoon tea and glass of champagne
