Remembering P D James

Talk
2.00PM Wednesday, 27th September 2017

The death of P D James in 2014 brought to an end the career of Britain’s most popular crime writer since Agatha Christie.

Working in the Civil Service until 1979, James took up writing in her 40s. She was credited with making detective fiction a serious contribution to literature with many of her novels adapted for television and film.

Fellow crime novelists Simon Brett and Frances Fyfield, actor Roy Marsden, who played her best-known detective Adam Dalgliesh, and Alastair Niven, her colleague at the Arts Council, will assess her standing now and recall with affection her personality and commitment to public life.

Speakers: Simon Brett, Frances Fyfield, Roy Marsden and Alastair Niven
