Malcolm Arnold was one of the most distinguished British composers of his generation, writing for the ballet, theatre, and film screen as well as the concert hall. This inspiring curator-led talk introduces his music through annotated manuscripts, set amongst film posters, programmes and photographs.
With many items on display for the first time, highlights include the manuscript of The Padstow Lifeboat (1967), the Academy Award for the score of The Bridge over the River Kwai (1958) and the manuscript score of the Seventh Symphony (1973) – previously thought lost, yet remarkably rediscovered on eBay by Arnold’s daughter in 2014.
