British humanitarian, Terry Waite travelled to Lebanon in the 1980s to secure the release of four hostages, but found himself captured in 1987.

In this talk, Terry will share his harrowing experiences as a hostage, and how he survived almost four years in solitary confinement. Undergoing a constant struggle to maintain his faith during that time, he will reveal the importance of language in enabling him to maintain inner harmony, and the books which have been the result of his experiences: His autobiography, Taken on Trust, a poetry collection, Out of the Silence, and his first comic novel, The Voyage of the Golden Handshake.
