A History of Pubs in Windsor Walk

Walk
7.00PM Monday, 18th September 2017

The origins of Public Houses can be traced through the ages. In fact, the great British pub started life as a great Italian wine bar! It was the Romans who first brought roads, towns and pubs, known as tabernae, in AD43.

Hostelries have long been central to people’s lives and no more so than here in Windsor: records show the town was once home to 11 breweries and in 1577 there was one alehouse for every 150 people!

Take this guided tour with Debbie Keenan to discover more about Windsor’s varied collection of drinking establishments, past and present.
