Celebrating the great composers of the early English Choral tradition, this programme of music by Handel and Purcell sees The Choir of St George’s Chapel joined by a period instrument ensemble.
The first half combines two choral works by Purcell written to honour St Cecilia, patron saint of music, with the incidental music for Aphra Behn’s play Abdelazar, whose Overture became the theme on which Britten based The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra. The second half features one of Handel’s Chandos Anthems, and his ever-popular Hallelujah Chorus from Messiah.
