Join us this March as we bring to life Malcolm Williamson’s enchanting opera ‘The Happy Prince’, based on the children’s story by Oscar Wilde. This beautiful fairy-tale centres around the arrival of a travelling swallow to a small town who stops to seek shelter from the town’s prized golden statue: ‘the happy prince’. An unlikely bond is struck up between the two as the swallow helps the saddened prince to try and bring happiness to his people. A story of redemption, it shows how selflessness and compassion leave an indelible mark while precious ornaments fade. Set to some of the most exciting operatic writing for young voices in the twentieth-century, and involving both professionals and talented singers from our local community, this is a production not to be missed.
