First heard in November 1875 the J W Walker and Sons organ at St Stephen’s Clewer, described as ‘one of the finest this side of London’, has undergone a loving restoration with the addition of new clarinet and pedal pipes to complete the builders’ original scheme.
The programme of sacred and secular choral and organ repertoire will be performed by internationally-acclaimed organist Richard Pinel and Festival favourites Quintessential Voices, drawing on music from recitals given by Sir George Elvey and Sir Walter Parratt during the organ’s nineteenth-century heyday.
An introduction to the instrument’s history and the restoration project by organ builder Peter Collins completes the celebratory evening.
