Following the 5th Windsor Festival International String Competition which took place in March our winner, South Korean violinist Ji Yoon Lee, will perform the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with the competition’s Associate Orchestra, and firm Festival favourite, the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The evening’s programme will also comprise a mixture of Opera, music for strings and the powerhouse that is Brahms’ 3rd Symphony, written when he was a 50-year-old bachelor.
Describing himself as ‘free but happy’ (Frei aber froh) he took the beginning letter from each word in the phrase and used it to create an F-A-F motif throughout the symphony as a little joke for his friends!
